Passion

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

I think God created us with natural given passion.  It’s been highly underused in my life and I am tired of living life out of obligation and responsibility.

No, I’m not going to go all crazy, but I am determined to make 2009 a different kind of year than 2008 was.  I’m getting started on it today.

Friends and Neighbors

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

My heart is pretty full right now.  J4 has been working his butt off to keep our home in good condition.  Spent the hot hours of the day treating our driveway.  I love that man.

We have lived in this home for over 11 years.  Neighbors have come and gone.  Ashamedly, after really good friend neighbors on either side of us moved away, and then we had J5, we retreated into our home and have not reached out to know our new neighbors.

Today, we were blessed with several moments of kindness.  One neighbor helped out when our tar-spreader-squeegie-thingie broke by loaning us his.  Then, he brought over peaches from their tree in the back yard.  Seriously yummy.   A little while later, another neighbor stopped by with a bag of fresh tomatoes from his garden.  I’m eating a fresh tomato sandwich as I write.  Doesn’t get much better than this!

In turn, I plan to make a double batch of my Corn, Avocado & Tomato Salsa (Ok, it’s not MY recipe, but I make it a lot…) and return the neighborly gesture.  Maybe even go a step further and give to a neighbor who didn’t do something nice for us today?  I really want to develop a much stronger pay-it-forward mentality!

Waiting

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Though it’s still difficult to talk about, I wanted to share here that we found out on Wednesday that I have miscarried. While we wait for the physical eventualities, I am going to remain somewhat offline for a while.

Thanks for understanding.

I feel awful, HOORAY!

Action vs. Submission

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Are they different? What is the active part of submission? I’m struggling right now with being me. I am stubborn. I am difficult to move.

I would like to change that.

I’ve taken a different approach to my physical health by taking action in my exercise. That’s something that I can just push myself to do. But submitting my excess food? That’s a trickier thing. I want to take action.

So, is there an active aspect of submitting one’s will to God? Or is it just a spiritual “time-out”?

Happy Birthday to meeeeeeee!

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I’m choosing to do a gratitude post today because what I really want to do is whine and complain about being miserably sick (along with my 2 1/2 year old…) on my birthday, but I know that’s not the graceful way out of this particular “down time”.

One Thousand Gifts – Part 84

  • 686. My mom’s health prayer/mantra “The healing power of Jesus is working in me, and I am getting better and better each day.”
  • 687. The kindness of a coworker (and friend) to bring me hot chicken soup and Starbucks coffee.
  • 688. That J5 is feeling good enough to dance on the couch along with the teddy bear on Teletubbies (even though I’ve told him not to!).
  • 689. The humidity that I normally despise, which is now keeping J5’s lungs moist enough to not develop croup.
  • 690. A seriously sweet birthday card from J4.
  • 691. My new iPod nano! (Thanks hon!)
  • 692. A new book to inspire change in me.
  • 693. eCards from friends and family.
  • 694. The temp outside is cool enough to have refreshing breezes in through the open window.
  • 695. J5’s delight in the Disney shows we’ve got on our DVR so he’s letting me recuperate without too much strain.

Geocaching – Trip #1

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

We had a really good day. Our very first Geocaching trip! We went outside. We walked. We hiked. We searched. We found!

For those of you new (like us) to the concept, geocaching is basically a scavenger hunt done with GPS! People create “caches” and place them around the world, then post their location using latitude and longitude coordinates, and then others run around trying to find them. Simple? Not always.

To learn a bunch more about the process, check out Geocaching.com. I have no idea why, but simply the idea of this had me SO excited. And I have to say, after having done one, I can sense an addiction forming. And it has the added benefit of fresh air and exercise!

When you find a cache, you have multiple options. You can just simply sign the log, leave a token item, or you can exchange an item. The caches can be any variety of container. You use a GPS device to locate the general vicinity of where the container was stashed, and then you look. And look, and look, and look. :)

It took us about 20-30 minutes to find this one. The container was not the one we expected, but very fun to find, nonetheless. I think the hardest part of the search was keeping Jack from running off on his own. He was having a really good time, running around, and whacking things with a stick he picked up!

When we found the cache, I laid the items out (see below). We were hoping the container would have been the larger one that we saw in some of the log pictures from over the years. (This particular cache was originally stashed in March 2004.) So, our contribution ended up in a ziploc baggie hidden with the container. Hopefully someone will find it and take it soon! :)

Let me know if you ever want to join us on an excursion. Weather permitting, I think this is about to become our new weekend pastime!!

4/2 Weigh In – TFTS

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Tales from the Scales LogoI have taken a hiatus this past week from dwelling on things weight-loss. It has been wonderful. I can’t say that I have eaten more than in previous weeks, in fact I was down a pound from the past couple of weeks. I needed to take a break. I was stressing out and it took my mom telling me to “not think about it” for a while to realize that I was in full swing obsession.

I’m going to carry on for at least another week of just being thankful for my body, taking every angry or frustrated thought about my weight and turning it into a simple prayer of thanksgiving and letting it go. It feels a LOT better than what I was doing before. We’ll see…

Weigh In #11 – Tales from the Scales

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Tales from the Scales LogoStarted my own new challenge today. Ok, so not so much of a challenge as just trying to actually DO what it is that I want to be doing. :) Sounds really specific, doesn’t it?

My weigh in this morning was not good, but the same as the past couple of days. Lower than my max, but no change to speak of. Mostly because I’ve been avoiding facing my “issue” of CONTROL. I blogged about it yesterday on my SCOH journal. Today is a new day, and so far so good. Will see ya again next week and THAT will determine how successful my intended methods are. ;)
